Hard Art DC 1979 is a photo show by Lucien Perkins that I donated some money to via Kickstarter a while ago. The show is insanely important to me because it features some of the first images of punk rock photography that really inspired me to become a photographer. It also features a lot of images of the band Trenchmouth that was fronted by my best friends brother Charlie Danbury. Charlie was my closest connection to the early 80’s DC punk scene which impacted my life in such a serious way as a teenager.
Over Christmas I went down to check out the Hard Art show in DC and I met the Danbury family down there. Alec MacKaye met us down there. He is featured in the images as a little boy and ended up writing much of the the text that is going to accompany the images when Hard Art becomes a book. Alec and Charlie hadn’t seen each other in 30 years and I convinced them to take this photo reenacting one of the photos right behind them.  It was a great moment.
When my grandmother died this summer I inherited a small amount of money from her. She was a lover and collector of art and I couldn’t think of anything better to spend her money on than photos from this show. I am purchasing three images from this show… one image of the Bad Brains, one image of the Teen Idles and of course one photo of Charlie Danbury and Trenchmouth.
I could not be more excited about these photos…

I just wanted to again horrify you with this photo of me 10 years ago when I was a model in some runway show in DC. Why the hell did they give me lip gloss but no cover up? What is happening? How awful is this? So many questions…

These are lucky fish. I took their photo many years ago in Chinatown in DC. They are the background of my computer but now they are in black and white for your enjoyment. Rub them for luck.

Oh hai!
Jon Stewart looked at me. No big deal…
Okay, seriously this is the last preview… I’m going to actually post all the pictures from the Rally later in the day…

This is the house I grew up in taken with a plastic camera. I took it several years ago. I have no idea why I am posting it at 5:15am (PST) on a Monday morning but it is what it is…
